Dear Kayenta Township Community Members,
We hope this message finds you well. In an effort to enhance public safety and improve security in our community, we are launching a 30-day pilot project to test the use of surveillance cameras in key areas throughout the Kayenta Township. This initiative is part of our ongoing commitment to protect our residents, deter criminal activity, and foster a safer environment for everyone.
Pilot Project Overview:
Starting from October 23, 2024, surveillance cameras will be temporarily installed at the Kayenta Township Recreation Park and a second location to be determined. These cameras will operate for 30 days and will monitor activity in public areas only. No private property or personal spaces will be recorded.
Goals of the Pilot Project:
- Learn how surveillance camera technology impacts unlawful activity and crime reduction: The cameras are intended to deter unlawful activity, providing an additional tool for the Kayenta Township and law enforcement to keep community safe.
- Evaluate the Effectiveness of Surveillance Technology: Data collected from this pilot will help us assess whether the cameras are effective in reducing crime and ensuring public safety.
- Learn community concerns on public safety: We understand the importance of protecting the privacy of our residents. Footage captured will be stored securely and used strictly for public safety purposes. Access will be limited to authorized personnel only, and all data will be handled in accordance with privacy laws and regulations.
Feedback and Transparency:
We encourage feedback from the community before, during, and after the pilot program. Your input will help determine whether this initiative should be expanded, modified, or discontinued. We will launch survey’s to collect feedback before and after the pilot which will be used to inform the decision making process. In the interest of transparency, updates on the project’s progress will be shared with the public, including data on its effectiveness in improving safety at the stakeholder’s meeting on October 23, at 6:00pm at the Town Hall meeting or provide feedback 24-hours on the Township’s website at kayentatownship-nsn.gov.
